Have you always wanted to paint fantastic pictures?
Discover 14 Amazing Techniques of the Artist Who Can't Draw Guaranteed To Make You Paint Like a Master in a Week!
Have you always wanted to paint?
Have you always desired the ability to be able to paint any picture no matter how difficult?
But you feel like you don't have the knowledge, talent, experience or confidence?
Then maybe we just the thing for you! I will get on that in a minute...
Have you always wanted to be able to paint pictures that people are impressed by, paintings that you would be proud to show, that maybe people would even pay for?
My name is Keith Sargent. My career was in the industry of Saturday morning animation as a layout and storyboard artist. I recently retired and wanted to try painting. Coming across Trev Goodwin's videos on painting was exciting. On top of that, I was grateful for the affordable fee he charged for his videos.
There are several things I like about Trev and the first thing is his straight forward honesty.I liked the fact that he has learned to paint through the school of "hard knocks". I liked his easy to understand terms, cutting through pretentious artist jargon, and painting tips. Through him you learn that you don't need a lot of fancy and expensive equipment to produce quality paintings.
Thank you Trev for sharing your talent! You are a natural teacher.
God Bless.
But you have failed with other courses?
Yet you never seem to be able to produce pictures that actually look how you intended? What do you think is the reason you might fail?
Is it because you have no talent, skill or application?
I will tell you the reason most people have difficulty with art. It is because of the way they have been taught or the way they have learnt their skills.
Most people have never been given the encouragement and advice they need. They have not been shown a method that is proven to work. How is it I know?
Like you I have probably read dozens of books, you might have bought DVDs or even attend a class at school or college like me.
If so like me you will have found that few actually give you the tools to make the progress you expected. Why is that?
These courses and books are often expensive and you will have probably been encouraged to buy more books, DVDs and equipment to, as they put it, make progress.
You wonder why you haven't been able to learn? It isn't your fault!
I know how you feel, I have probably spent thousands on things that have been of no help at all. So what is it that I think they do wrong?
In my opinion, most teachers, without realising, encourage one of two methods.
The first is to give you to few skills and techniques by trying to make it really easy, showing you how to paint a single picture. However in doing this they don't give you enough techniques to paint any picture in the future.
The other set of teachers set themselves up in the opposite camp. They try to teach you everything about painting in one sitting. They introduce every single technique and idea, without actually explaining them in sufficient detail.
This is disheartening as you feel like you are making no progress, you begin to think that are too many steps, and too much too learn before you will ever begin to paint a good picture.
So how do you stop this cycle? Start here today..
This is where I decided to rip up the "rule book" and take a new approach to teaching. I adore painting and have seen others I have taught begin to love painting too. In a moment I will tell you more about the course, but why should you believe me?
I am a normal guy who loves painting and teaching
I am 58 years old and come from Manchester, England. I have been painting for 40 years and have gathered a wealth of skills, read dozens of books, and gained real world experience in painting.
At school I could never really get into formal art lessons and I left school with no qualifications.
I still wanted to be a commercial artist so my father spoke to a friend and was told to forget it as I was left handed (you can't believe it can you!).
So for twenty years or so I pottered around, painting for friends, reading books, doing art classes at night school, all without much success.
Trouble was I wanted to paint complex paintings, probably like you do,but I couldn't find a method that worked for me.
I studied from some of the great artists
I then began to study the masters, and how they developed drawing and painting. From that day on I gained confidence in painting pictures that I wanted to do. I used an amalgamation of methods from the old masters, my personal style and modern artists.
From this I developed my own technique that I began to apply fastidiously, gradually honing, improving and bringing in other influences.
Not long after I began to paint portraits of famous people. I then began to sell these through various avenues (shops, friends, etc).
I sold my paintings to a millionaire for his mansions
I took the odd commission, until one day a friend called me to day she had been speaking to a millionaire friend who had been looking to buy some military paintings, and would I be interested in taking a commission?
Initially I rejected the offer, but after some phone calls, I offered to do a single picture for him.
The painting he wanted from me was 6 foot high, 4 foot wide, Prussian horseman. Now I had never painted anything that large before. In fact I panicked initially faced with such an unusual task.
At this point I decided that I should just try to use my standard method to produce this painting. Of course I had to adjust it slightly to meet the demands of such a large picture, but I stuck to it and now the painting hangs in one of his mansion houses, that you can see in the picture.
Since then I have completed further commissions and sold more paintings in a similar vein.
It took me forty years to learn to keep things simple, stick to the method and enjoy painting. I have tried to take that knowledge and condense it into 8 hours of video.
I don't have a studio and paint from my kitchen
I don't own a huge studio, I rarely use an easel, own about a dozen brushes I use regularly and don't ever use a fancy pallete! I don't have a fancy lighting set up or use the most expensive materials.
I am a painter who paints because I love it, I paint when I can, where I can, I am literally proof that you don't need an extraordinary budget or setup to oil paint.
I am a mortgage paying man, who lives in a three bedroom semi-detached house in a Manchester suburb. It doesn't get any more real than that!
I will not tell you to spend a fortune on equipment, fancy setups, or lighting, because to be blunt I wouldn't spend that money myself.
This is why I developed these videos, to show it is possible to paint and create great pictures without needing to be a time served artist.
Hundreds of people have used the lessons to begin painting and below I have copied in some stories provided by customers who have enjoyed the videos. First I think I had better explain what I am offering..
What is included on the DVD course?
The course consists of two DVD sets, each containing four DVDs and lasting more than eight hours in total.
The course is provided as physical DVDs which will be sent to your nominated address. These allow you watch the videos when you want at your own pace.
You can watch each section again and again, and the DVDs are split down into "chapters" allowing you to skip backward and forward easily. Plus because they are on DVD you can watch them on TV or PC, allowing you great flexibility.
You also have the advantage that you don't have to go to a class every week. Whilst having a "live" teacher has many advantages, the disadvantage is that if you miss a class then you can miss key skills.
Going to a class can also be difficult to commit to, it assumes that you never have any other issues such as holidays, illnesses or commitments to see to.
The DVDs allow you to study when you want and how you want.
DVD Set 1 - Painting John Lennon - 4 hours.
Custom Canvasses - The first thing I show you is something that many courses do not even bother with. Yet it is a fundamental technique.
You will learn how to make your own canvas form scratch, how you will be able to construct a frame and stretch your own material.
You may wonder why this is necessary , after all you can buy canvasses, boards and even wood to paint on, why on earth would you make a canvas? Let me answer that by saying you don't have to, you could paint for twenty years and never need to create your own canvas.
However creating your own canvas has many advantages. It allows you to produce any size of canvas. If you want to produce a large painting it is unlikely you will even be able buy one ready made.
Also if you want to produce a specific size for a space or area, or dare I say to meet a paying customer demand, then knowing how to make your own canvas is important.
Creating your own canvas is also considerably cheaper than buying canvasses, especially if you are doing lots of paintings this will be a cost you want to save, so that you can afford other equipment.
Ultimately there is also a satisfaction in producing your whole painting end to end. Making your canvas is a useful tool and technique.
Canvas Preparation - Secondly I will show you how to prepare a canvas, whereas making your own canvas is not important, knowing how to prepare your canvas is vital.
A badly prepared canvas will rot and warp, completely destroying your beautiful painting with it.
This can occur even with prepared or bought canvasses so you shouldn't assume you don't need to prepare these correctly.
Good preparation of a painting surface will make a huge difference to your paintings. Using simple, inexpensive methods you can create a surface for painting that will improve your paintings five fold.
Paint any picture - I will show you how you can paint any picture, there is no need for you to be restricted by "invisible" limits.
You will have been told all your life that you need to start simple, but let me be honest, who wants to paint simple pictures?
I will show you how you can paint ANY picture, no matter how complex, with little need for drawing talent.
You will learn to love painting, because you will be painting something you are interested, something that inspires you and something you enjoy.
The quality of your paintings will improve as you are able to see what is happening on the picture in front of you and reproduce it even better.

Using Basecoats - People often ask me what one technique would I recommend to beginner painters. My answer is always learning how to paint basecoats. This is mainly because most beginners underestimate the power of good basecoats in producing a great painting.
I will show you how to create a good base coat, it will pull through your painting, adding to the depth of color, drawing together disparate elements.
I will show you how to choose your basecoat, the right color, and how to paint a basecoat whilst leaving your underpainting in place. Your paintings will develop and enhance in depth, color and style as you begin to understand the value of using base coats.
Color depth and layering is an approach you will use as an artist, this will become one of the foundation stones of your future paintings.

Buying Equipment - When you begin painting you will be tempted to go out and buy tubes of paint, thirty brushes, an easel, pallettes and all sorts of equipment. Nothing is more powerful than the draw of the beautiful long rows of art equipment!
I will show you what equipment is essential, what equipment is a nice to have, and what "professional" items you simply won't find in my house.
I will show you how you can save money on equipment, make your paints last longer, and how to ensure you poroduce the best quality results at the lowest cost.

Your Studio - Most people worry that when they start painting they are not doing it in the optimal location, with the correct amount of lighting, the right ambience, and all that guff.
I will show you where the best locations for painting are, what lighting is required, and why you really should not worry too much about it. You can paint great paintings from your living room or kitchen with no special lighting, and you will learn how to paint professionally whatever your environment.

Skin Tones - Once you have the base coat on your canvas, you will have to put on your first layer of paint. If you get this first layer of tones right you will be able to get the final colors perfect.
In this DVD the first coat is the skin tone range, you will learn how to create realistic looking tones, that will add dimension and depth to your paintings. Everyone says realistic looking portraits and skin tones are supposed to be difficult, but you will be painting them with ease if you get the under painting correct.

Tonal Ranges and Colors - One of the fundamental skills that you learn as a painter is the use of tones and tonal values. You will see how using tonal range, contrast and tone balance can change a lifeless picture into a powerful painting.
Tonal patterns are what makes the difference between good painting and great painting. I don't take you through specifics, but introduce you to the elements in a gradual and easy to follow way.
At the end of the DVD you will realise when your paintings is missing tonal variation, and how you can correct it.
If your passion is painting people learning how to create realistic looking clothing is a skill you cannot do without. I take you through specific examples of clothing types, how to paint them, what to paint and importantly what you shouldn't paint.
Your pictures will no longer lack clarity or have that unfinished look, nor will you spend hours painting unimportant detail. You will also understand why removing whole sections from a picture can benefit the whole composition.
Meaning your paintings will be more realistic without being overly detailed, plus you will be able to paint quicker, more accurately and better.

Painting Shadows and Highlights - As you develop your picture you will finally hit the point where the basic colors are put down on canvas. This is where many people slip up. After you see the video you will see how your paintings will move from this flattened layer, to a painting that stands off the page.
You will examine the picture for shadows and highlights that define areas and detail via suggestion.
You will save hours by only "suggesting" detail through the clever use of shadows and highlights, rather than trying to paint every single element in the picture.

Tints and Glazes - Just when you think you are almost done, I will throw a spanner in the works. You should be following me along, either with your own painting or just watching as I paint.
This is when I am going to show you the "killer" technique. I will take you through the technique of painting tints, glazes and transparent layers. This is how you will produce perfectly matched colors, subtle shades, blended ranges and color overlaps.
This technique will take your already great painting and make it into a genuine piece of art.

Brush Techniques - Now you have built your confidence up, I will show you how to improve your brushstroke techniques.
Brush technique will be constantly referred to during the DVD, you will learn the skills necessary to paint hair, realistic looking woods and produce great blends that will look soft and realistic.

Painting Hands and Features - You will have been told that painting hands is the most difficult portrait painting technique.
This can be true in certain circumstances, but people often make more of a problem of this than is really necessary. You will learn how to produce realistic looking hands and features.
This is a skill that you will find to be invaluable in any painting involving deep perspective, as this is what causes the difficulty with painting features.

Varnishing and Finishing - An important part of finishing yourpainting is knowing how to varnish it. A good varnish coat will protect your painting, draw out colors and add depth to your picture.
Learn how different varnishes should be used and why, which method is best for applying your varnish coats and how to utilise varnishes as a way of protecting the picture and canvas.

Taking Photographs - Once you have finished your new painting you will want to take a photograph to show off your new skills to friends and family.
Maybe you will even want to put them up on the internet. There are some handy hints you need to know about taking pictures of your paintings. I will show you some simple techniques for getting great pictures every time.
Hopefully by this point you will have started your own paintings and feel like you need to move onto something new. That is why we include another 4 hour DVD set for you!
DVD Set 2 : Portrait Painting - 4 Hours
Although the first painting course dealt with a picture of John Lennon, most of the techniques were designed to show off general oil painting skills.
This second DVD set was specifically created to introduce the concepts for portraits. Portraits are often considered to be the most difficult subject to paint.
You will already have seen me paint John Lennon, and I will now give you the secret power techniques I use to paint perfect portraits.

Picture Choice and Composition - People often get their pictures wrong before they start. Your choice of picture is critical to how good the finished painting is.
When I was taking commissions I often asked for ten pictures of the subject. This is because most people will pick the wrong type of picture for a good painting. You will know how to choose a picture, why not to pick some and what is meant by good composition.
You could read fifty books on composition and still not get it right. After seeing the DVD you should have a better feel for what makes a good picture, and how to spot it.
You will pick up quickly what types of portrait you can do and how those will affect your completed painting. I will show you what portraits are good and how to avoid mistakes that could spoil hours of work because of poor depiction.
If you want great portraits, half an hour on this will distill my experience beyond dozens of books.

Simplifying Pictures - Have you ever tried drawing or painting a face before? Did the complexity and structure phase you before you started?
You will be able to take any picture and break it down into more manageable chunks. This will speed up your painting as well as improving accuracy.

Skin Tones Advanced - The reason why portraiture is difficult is that everybody looks at faces and skin color every day.
Painting your skin tones correctly will get you under the radar of many critics.
Good skin tone is all about preparation and observation. Most new artist begin judging and mixing colors without even really looking to see what skin tones are actually showing.
After watching this video you will not make that mistake. Your skin tones will blend easily and match exactly, producing more believable human faces.

Capturing Personality - Portraiture is also not just about painting realistic pictures. Portrait painting is about capturing the essence of the person.
You will know instantly how to translate a picture into a painting that will recognise the character of your subject.

Realistic Portraits - Painting portraits can often end up with you painting a caricature. There are easy steps to take to avoid this, but get it wrong and could end up with a picture whose features exaggerate and distort the face.
You will paint perfect, feature filled faces without them looking like a charachter from the muppets.

Backgrounds - One of the things that most people spend little time on, but can affect your paintings is the use of backgrounds in your portraits.
Different colors, patterns and designs can severely change the feel and style of a painting. I will guide you through choosing appropriate backgrounds abd how to use and remove elements you don't want.
When you add all these techniques together across eight hours of video, you will gain a thorough understanding of how you can utilise your talent to produce great paintings.
DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!!
I know that right about now you are thinking "why on earth should I believe you Trev?"
The truthful answer is "You shouldn't". After all I am trying to sell you something right!?
Here are some more comments left by my students. These people are just like you, they were unsure whether to take the risk on my DVDs. I hope their comments are helpful.
hi I am 54 years old, I cant draw for toffee, and never painted a portrait in my life, until I got Trev's dvds, the way he takes you through the whole process from start to finish, in a easy to understand manner is brilliant, if you dont understand anything just email him and he keeps you on track, I honestly cant praise the man enough, thanks yet again trev for inspiring me to take up painting,
Best regards
Garry.
Trev's how to oil paint series is excellent.
I am not very good at drawing things in perspective, and painted quite a few abstracts, because I was quite nervous about painting a portrait.
The painting series took me through everything from how to prepare the canvas, to painting a decent painting.
Practice makes perfect, but I was surprised how quick I learnt through the method of using a grid to make sure that things were in perspective, and learnt how to gradually build up the colours, and with a bit of patience and cheap materials, I managed to create something that my husband was not ashamed to have on show. My paintings have come on so well, that my cleaner has already shown interest in a painting of Nelson Mandela.
Thanks a million, I would encourage anyone to grab a brush, it's great fun!
Joy
(PS: I am learning that if I take more care and practice I can create a face people can recognize and admire)
8 Hours Worth of Video for $69?
I know you want to know how much it will cost, so I had better tell you abou the price.
So now I have told you all this, what if I was to tell you that the price was $250? That is what I charge for a five hour workshop per person.
What if I said I was only charging $140? That would be $17.50 per hour, less than a standard consultation fee.
I looked at other people's products and they varied between $97 and $197 for around the same amount of content, this put a marker in the ground for me as to where to pitch my course.
Based on my research I have decided to offer this course for only $69. That is less than $8.50 an hour! We can offer the DVDs at this low price because we have been able to reduce the production cost of the DVDs, our advertising costs are low and our costs for production of the films are kept as low as possible.
Plus, although we obviously need to make some profit, we want to make the price low enough so that almost everybody can potentially afford to try out our DVDs and begin oil painting right away.
After taking feedback from people who are interested in learning to paint we found that most people would be willing to pay upto $97, as they felt this would provide good value, and it is also an amount we can make money from.
You can pay in a number of ways to meet your particular circumstance or requirement. We offer payment via credit card, cheque or paypal. The "Order" button link below will offer you the choice to pay in any way you prefer.
So you want more? Well if you buy today..
OK I know in these economic times you are still wondering if what we are offering is really worth it.
Just to add that little gilt edge I have come up with some great bonuses for you.
However you must be aware that these bonuses are a limited availability offer only. Once I run out of them, or the access associated with them, I will have to stop advertising them.
Bonus One - The Golden Outline DVD - Value $49
The first DVD bonus was recording created by my son, and was designed to help with getting an accurate drawing onto canvas. The most commonly asked question by students is:
"Do I need to be able to draw?"
I had answered this on numerous occasions, as well as showing various methods to help with this in courses. However I still felt it was something that could be made easier, so I asked my son, who came up with this simple technique for turning any picture into an easy to copy painting.
You may have seen some of this video online already, but here we offer this DVD as a bonus, the advantages of having a DVD over watching it online are clear. You can watch the video in much higher quality, you can skip backward and forward, and it is simple to watch anywhere you have a DVD player.
This DVD takes you on a step by step journey, taking you from a picture or photograph, through to a completed underpainting, ready for your full painting.
This method is completely foolproof and requires skills that you would have used as a child, that is how simple this technique is.
We only have a limited number of these DVDs as they were produced as a one off with our DVD mastering company.
Bonus Two - Trev's Private Interviews - Value $45
When I receive emails I often receive questions which seem to be asked by numerous people. I gathered these up in a number of sessions and attempted to answer them. Simon set up a video call and we answered as many as we could.
We did four or five sessions in total and this DVD contains all that information. We addressed those questions which people often get stuck on, and tried to give comprehensive answers.
This DVD contains all the question and answer sessions in full DVD quality video. The DVD lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, answering questions on equipment, differences between paints and more.
These videos will at some point be released on to the internet, but will only be available in low quality resolution.
We only requested a small number of these DVDs from our supplier as in short runs they were expensive to produce. When they are gone, they are gone!
Bonus Three - Online marketing and gallery - Value $75
Many people begin painting and want to show off their work and even sell their art. However finding places to showcase your art can be time consuming and onerous. If you try to promote yourself online it can be really hard work.
We can help by setting up your own gallery, and helping you with promoting your work. We will also help you promote your work using various marketing methods and our knowledge of the online communities.
We will place ads, videos and articles in the most prominent places where people will see them.
We will also offer you advice on how best to promote your work offline, how to get your work in public places and how to sell your paintings and get commissions.
We can only offer this service to a limited number of people as it can be very time consuming and resource hungry on our servers.
Bonus Four - Platinum Membership to Learn to Oil Paint "Inner Circle"- Value $69
Each year we aim to release two new DVD sets, these would usually cost $69 to purchase, however we have a membership area on the site where subscribers can get access to the DVDs. We will give you one years free platinum membership.
This will allow you to download any videos we release in the next year, either as video files or as DVD. These can then be either watched on your computer or burned to DVD.
The videos will be uploaded to the membership area and you will then be sent an email informing you of the availability. The videos will be provided for you in numerous formats and quality.
We can almost guarantee that we will produce at least two new videos in the next year, so that in effect you will gain four DVD sets for the price of two!
Plus because we haven't yet produced the new DVDs you could even have a say in what subjects we teach in the new videos. This is your opportunity to ask about specific techniques or styles, and we might include them in our next DVD, plus you get them absolutely free!
I really don't know anyone who offers this kind of service, as well as a years free new content.
However this access is a genuinely limited availability offer, I can only offer this to a small number of people who sign up, as it is in effect giving away my future sales. It is also very costly for me to provide this content.
Updated 04/09/08: We are just about to produce this years first new video. This new video will be about painting still lifes, many people turn their nose up at still life, but I can tell you it is still one of the most popular sellers in the world.
